A family owned-and-operated financial services firm with over 40 years collective experience and expertise.
When searching for a financial advisor you can trust, you need to make sure to ask the right questions. We took the liberty of answering some of the most common and important questions below, so you can get a better understanding of who we are and how we work.
All advisors and agents at The Zois Group have all necessary certifications to perform the services we provide for our clientele. Our financial advisors have successfully passed the Uniform Investment Advisor Law exam and hold the Series 65 designation. Our advisors also hold the Certified Financial Fiduciary® certification.
Our insurance agents have successfully completed all necessary state insurance exams and hold life, health, and accident insurance licenses for the states that we are registers and licensed to work.
Our firm focuses greatly on education and professionalism, which is why our advisors and agents are constantly studying to acquire more certifications to be able to better serve our clients in any way that we can.
Yes we are - our advisors have passed the Uniform Investment Advisor Law Exam, and also hold the Certified Financial Fiduciary® certification.
According to the Securities and Exchange Commission, which regulates registered investment advisors as fiduciaries, the fiduciary duty also entails:
• Acting with undivided loyalty and utmost good faith
• Providing full and fair disclosure of all material facts, defined as those which "a reasonable investor would consider to be important"
• Not misleading clients
• Avoiding conflicts of interest (such as when an advisor profits more if a client uses one investment instead of another or trades frequently) and disclosing any potential conflicts of interest
• Not using client's assets for the advisor's own benefit or the benefit of other clients.

In our opinion, working with a smaller, family-owned-and-operated firm has its advantages compared to larger institutions or banks.
When working with a family-owned-and-operated firm such as ours, you get to know you advisor one-on-one, and build a more personal, life-long connection with them. In our experience, we have had clients mention to us that they do not like large institutions because they talk with different advisors and representatives each time they call in and it doesn't feel as personal.
Another advantage of working with an independent firm such as ours is the ability to access a broader range of financial and investment products, strategies, and services. A common misconception that many individuals have is that the larger financial institutions and banks actually have access to more options than smaller firms - however, many times larger firms and institutions have their "hands-tied" to certain vendors, money-managers, or companies and their options may be rather limited compared to an independent "boutique" firm. Since we strive to work on an independent basis, we can truly find the best financial and investment solutions that fit your personal situation perfectly.
Our company specialized in assisting clients with the following services:
• Financial Planning
• Investment Planning

Our firm typically works with individuals with investable assets over $250,000.
Life insurance and annuity products have set minimums, however, vary upon each individual company.
Through our investment management services, a single asset-based fee for advisory services is charged - this includes the cost of portfolio management services, custodial services, and the execution of securities transactions.
Our insurance agents are paid a commission directly from the insurance companies that we represent. Since we are independent from the 65+ insurance companies that we represent, there is no conflict of interest towards any one specific company, and commissions paid to our agents are paid directly from the company itself, not out of your assets or premiums.
If you have any other questions to how our agents are paid, feel free to contact us and we will gladly answer any questions you may have.
Though we charge a single asset-based fee for our advisory services, there may be separate and distinct fees and expenses charged by individual mutual funds or exchange-traded funds to their shareholders. Such fees and expenses are described in each fund's prospectus.
Individual insurance products may also charge their own fees and expenses and if so, would be described in any individual product's prospectus.
Any trust, legal documents, or legacy planning services that involve third-party coordination may result in extra fees/costs.
If you have any questions regarding additional fees on any particular mutual fund, exchange-traded fund, or individual insurance product(s), feel free to contact us and we will gladly answer any questions you may have.
We have created an investment approach that emphasizes risk-managed portfolios designed to meet the specific needs and risk tolerances of investors in any market by:
• Offering a full spectrum of flexible investment options.
• Focusing on risk management in today's constantly changing markets.
• Evaluating the investment landscape from a unique 21st-century perspective.
When investing, it's beneficial to have a consistent plan to deliver over full market cycles. Our core platform is designed to align with a client's risk tolerance and re-balance accordingly to stick with that tolerance for the lifetime of the portfolio. Our 10 profiles, consisting of our Domestic Equity and Fixed Income strategies, systematically re-balance using relative strength thresholds. The ultimate goal is to capture market upside in times of growth and limit down-side risk during market declines.
Here at The Zois Group, we view our clients as our family. Our advisors and agents communicate with clients on a monthly basis via check-in phone calls. Furthermore, we hold quarterly face-to-face meetings to review performance, update any necessary documentation, etc.
Though this is our minimum "point-of-contact" and communication schedule, many times we communicate much more frequently with our clients and often have much closer and personal connections with the individuals and families that we service.
The Zois Group takes pride in working on an independent basis, meaning that we have greater access to more broad range of companies, products, services, and strategies than other financial professionals who may be captive to one, or a handful, of companies.
Our the insurance side of our business, we have access to over 68 highly-reputable insurance companies nationwide - meaning we can find the right product/policy to fit your specific needs (when an annuity and/or life insurance fit into a comprehensive financial plan)
Our team is always available to answer any questions you may have. Contact us today to schedule a no-strings-attached conversation with The Zois Group team. We will discuss your specific goals, your current financial situation, and what is most important to you and your family.
